Horse Chestnut Trees Canvas Prints

Horse Chestnut Trees Canvas Prints A Horse Chestnut is a large deciduous tree. Its Latin name is Aesculus hippocastanum. It grows natively in southern part, in the Balkans. It is grown very often in temperate climates. It can grow up to 36 m tall. The name of the tree (and the whole genus of similar trees) is because it was used to treat horses, against cough and some parasite worms. Linnaeus named the genus Aesculus after the Roman name for an edible acorn. Common names for these trees include buckeye and horse chestnut. Some are also called white chestnut or red chestnut. They are sometimes called conker trees because of their link with the game of conkers, played with the seeds, also called conkers. They would then boil and drain the fish at least three times in order to dilute the toxin effects. New shoots from the seeds also have been known to kill grazing cattle. Horse chestnut trees grow in nearly any soil but seem to prefer a sandy loam. They grow very rapidly into tall straight trees that can reach heights of over 100 ft (approximately 30 m) tall, with widely spreading branches. The bark is grayish-green or grayish-brown in color, and the tree limbs are thick and have corky, elongated, wart-like eruptions that appear from a distance like ribbing. The interior of horse chestnut bark is pinkish brown, with fine lines running its length. It is odorless and its taste is very bitter and astringent.
