Thorns on Agave Plant Canvas Prints

Thorns on Agave Plant Canvas Prints Agave is a genus of monocots native to the hot and arid regions of Mexico and the southern United States, commonly called agaves. Some Agave species are also native to tropical areas of South America. The plants are perennial, but each rosette flowers once and then dies. Some species are known by the name century plant. Agave tequilana (agave azul or blue agave) is used in the production of tequila. Agave nectar, a sweetener derived from the sap, is used as an alternative to sugar in cooking, and can be added to breakfast cereals as a binding agent. Agave species are succulents with a large rosette of thick, fleshy leaves, each ending generally in a sharp point and with a spiny margin; the stout stem is usually short, with the leaves apparently springing from the root. Along with plants from the related genus Yucca, various Agave species are popular ornamental plants in warmer climates. Leaf margins may also have teeth, and if those teeth are sharp, they are called spinose teeth on a spinose leaf margin. On a leaf apex, if there is an apical process and if it is especially sharp, stiff, and spine-like, it may be referred to as spinose or as a pungent apical process.
